Detoxification
With the New Year already here, many of us begin to take inventory of our lives, with many choosing to focus on our health and weight loss. Oftentimes, weight loss does not come easy when we are filled with toxins and don’t know how to properly remove them from our bodies in order to optimize our weight loss efforts. By definition, a detox is a period of time when we abstain from eating or consuming unhealthy or harmful foods or drinks in order to improve overall health. What does it mean to truly detox your body? There are many options out there from juice cleanses to apple cider tonics, but what it really comes down to is your body’s detox pathways and how you can support them, for a truly safe and effective detox.
The Phase 2 detoxification pathway is known as the conjugation pathway. This involves converting the fat-soluble toxic chemical and transforming the toxins into water-soluble chemicals. They are then passed out through body fluids as such as the bile or urine. With a detox it’s not just about what you’re NOT consuming, but also about what you ARE. In order for both detox pathways to function optimally you need some important foundational support. For Phase 1: B Vitamins, lipotrophics including, choline, methionine, inositol, minerals such as magnesium and antioxidants like glutathione. For Phase 2: Vitamin B12 and N-Acetylcysteine, glutamine, folic acid, and glycine to
name a few.
Drinking lots of water and physical activity are also imperative during both phase 1 and phase 2. Utilizing an Infrared Sauna can also help accelerate the detoxification process. We offer a 14 day detox starter kit as well as all of the vitamin, mineral, and amino acid support to assist with an effective detox program. It also includes weekly Turbo and Glutathione injections, IR Sauna, and weekly RN check-ins. Dr. Watkins will be giving a more in-depth talk regarding detoxification coming next Monday January 14th at 5:30 pm so please join us at aNu for this annual discussion.
